:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from James -- Lana Turner, the Glamorous Survivor : I have only praise for this, as I have been a Lana Turner fan all my life. Obviously, or I wouldn’t have read it. ( Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2021 )
- 4.0 out of 5 stars from TERESA -- Very good read... : Good read. A lot of pictures, which I liked. The one thing I found disturbing about Lana, was her quest to have more children, when in fact, she was too busy living her movie star lifestyle to be with her only daughter. She went on vacation for 3 months in another country leaving her newborn with NANA and her mother. Not working, a vacation. How could you endure being away from your baby?? She complained that Cheryl loved her mother more than she loved Lana. Duh!! Thank GOD that Cheryl had her grandmother in her life. Why would you keep trying to have more children when you had no time for the child you had? Can you imagine the life they would of lead if the children had survived? - 4.0 out of 5 stars from V. S. V -- The Lady, the One and Only : You can't always be sure you're getting the truth in these move star stories, but I am old enough to have been alive through many of these events. If I thought Lana Turner was fascinating on the silver-screen, her Hollywood life story was just about as exciting. Apparently,Lana didn't just "sweep" dramatically into a room to here lover, she swept in and out of peoples' lives and people swept in and out of hers also. I've never thought her daughter's sentence was fair. I highly recommend this particular book on Lana Turner, the legend and the ordinary person. ( Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2018 )
- from Kona -- VINE VOICE : What a life! ( 5.0 out of 5 stars )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from ClassicHollywoodWomen -- Oh Lana. . . : First off, a lot of these reviews seem to be critquing the woman over the book. If you buy a book about someone that is written by someone, they are not going to be putting themselves in a horrible picture. Could Ms. Turner have taken more blame? Of course. Will you realize that when reading this book? Of course. Does that make the book horrible? Nope! This book is going to teach you more about the woman than any other person or book possibly can. You delve into her mind and the reasoning behind each decision. For those saying that Ms. Turner could not carry another child to term, that is rubbish. She goes into her medical history with the reader and even had an abortion before having Cheryl. A woman came from nothing to become one of the biggest stars on the planet. You have to have a certain amount of respect for her because of that. To hold onto the fleeting admiration that is fame, Ms. Turner made some tough decisions. Having children out of wedlock was not one of them. Sadly, being active in her daughter's life as a child was also another thing that was tossed to the side, something Ms. Turner admits. Just take everything with a grain of salt and realize that people are not going to give you unbiased accounts of their own life and you should enjoy this smashing biography. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- An honest biography! : It was written in a simple way, very honestly & open heartily. One will learn how she repeatedly made mistakes in her relationships/marriages/being in love because of being so trustworthy & honest where she was always taken for granted. An interesting biography …learned a lot that I never knew. ( Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- It is so great. A real must for any Lana Tuner fan : Oh god, this book. It is so great. A real must for any Lana Tuner fan. Whoever was the ghost writer did a really great job letting her personality through in this book. Sure, she doesn't go into much detail about the Cheryl Crane scandal, but what do you expect? Her stories of Old Hollywood, with all the ridiculous drama is so great. You really have to wonder about her critical thinking skills when she talks about her many marriages, affairs and money troubles but hey no one is perfect. She really lived the life you would expect of a beautiful, glamorous. rich movie star and I just gotta love her for that. It's worth reading! ( Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2015 )
- 3.0 out of 5 stars from Mary B. Wheeler -- So, what else is new? : This is not what I thought it would be. I already knew everything with the exception of Tyrone Power. ( Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2020 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Spelling Queen -- An unusual feature! : This book has a rather unusual and unexpected feature in that the last batch of photographs has been inserted upside down! Luckily, my husband (for whom I bought this book as a present) thought it was an added attraction rather than a mistake, and it has not spoiled his enjoyment one jot! The one slightly disturbing thing is that this was not spotted by the seller before dispatch but, who knows, they might have increased the price if they HAD spotted it, thinking its value as a 'one-off' might be tremendous! A good read, nevertheless. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 14, 2020 )
